So many of you probably know that I’ve been a long time Dead Head and toured with the band for many years. I’ve driven across country, flew in jets and rode in busses to get to shows. It was an adventure that was always fun and sometimes a little dangerous. But I’ve been reading the Keith Richards biography, “Life”. In this current chapter he talks about a Rolling Stones fan who followed the band in the early and mid 70’s, maybe later too. Her name was/is Rita. According the Keith, she would hitchhike from city to city, find the venues, find tickets and, like Deadheads, survived on the road during Stones tours in the U.S. Rita was also blind. This rose dedication to a whole new level for me. At some point during the ’75 U.S. tour, the band became more aware of Rita. Keith helped set up a system where the tour truck drivers would drive Rita to every show, and he made sure she had a safe place to stay every night. I don’t know if Rita is still alive, but I salute you and your devotion to the band you love. Big respect from this aging tour head.
