Who played drums on “Hello, goodbye” by The Beatles?

Most people think it was Ringo Starr, but this is not the case. When the Beatles came to record ‘Hello, Goodbye’ Ringo refused to attend the session. He claimed that he had a rather nice new duvet, was feeling all snuggly in bed and didn’t want to get up.

In panic the rest of the Beatles phoned around all the drummers they knew, they tried Keith Moon, Charie Watts, Brian Bennett, Ginger baker and a few other, but no one was avaialble. Then John had a brainwave, a few week previous he had been in Blackburn, Lancashire counting holes as part of research into some lyrics that would later become A Day In The Life, and whilst there he had met Barbra Castle, the towns MP and Minister for Transport. Over a coffee in local cafe Mrs Castle had said she dabbled in drumming and would love to play with the Beatles. So a quick phone call later and Barbra Castle was sitting behind Ringos kit laying down the beats for the song.

Of course the Beatles kept it quiet because they didn’t want to upset Ringo, and Mrs Castle kept it quiet because it might effect her political career, so not many people know about the incident to this day.
