When John Lennon met Yoko Ono back in 1966, he totally fell in love. He quickly left his first wife, Cynthia, behind. He had an affair and ended up marrying Yoko in early 1969. John only gave Cynthia a small amount as a divorce settlement, even though he knew she would need to support and raise their son, Julian, who was just five at the time.
A few years later, Cynthia found herself nearly broke and realized she had to come up with some money to make ends meet for herself and Julian. So, she made a tough choice to sell the love letters and drawings John had given her when they were young and madly in love. Those letters were super passionate, filled with sweet lines like “I love you, Cyn.”
You can only imagine how hard it must have been for Cynthia to let go of those cherished mementos. In the end, she sold them for quite a bit. The buyer? Paul McCartney. He shelled out a small fortune for those keepsakes. A few days later, Cynthia got all the letters and drawings back in the mail, beautifully framed. They even came with a note that said, “Never sell your memories. Love, Paul McCartney.”
